At the heart of the new development, the 23-acre lake provides a stunning backdrop for both activity and relaxation. As well as enjoying the panoramic waterside views whilst walking, running or cycling around the lake loop, this year’s summer sessions of water sports returns, giving people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to paddleboard and swim safely in the lake.
Following feedback from last year’s activities, Cambridge Sports Lake Trust (CSLT) has enhanced its programme to include more options for different levels of experience.
Open water swimming sessions take place on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Additions for this season include induction sessions, taster sessions and a two-week course (on 21 and 28 June) to build the confidence of those new to open water swimming.
Paddleboarding sessions run on Sundays, including beginner tasters, Ready to Ride courses offering BSUPA accreditation, and open sessions for qualified paddlers.
Alongside the lake activities, Brew & Basket will be hosting a Spring Party from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, 3 May. As well as firing up the barbecue and serving a range of refreshments, they will have family-friendly games and activities. Live music from singer/songwriter Graham Buxton will add to the festive atmosphere, making it a great day out for all ages.
Brew by the Lake will also be open at weekends and for special events from May through to September. Overlooking the lake, the café offers a selection of hot and cold food and drinks, with outdoor seating that invites visitors to relax and enjoy nature at its best.
Fiona Reardon-Rose, Communications and Partnerships Manager for Urban&Civic, said: “Last year’s water sports programme was hugely popular with both residents and the wider community, and it’s fantastic to see it return this summer with more sessions. The water sports launch and Spring Party are a great way to kick off a fun-filled season and give more people an opportunity to experience life by the lake.”
Visitors can also explore the latest show homes from Stonebond and Cala to find out how they could make lakeside living part of everyday life. No need to book an appointment, drop into their sales offices to find out more about how you can make Waterbeach your home.
Sustainability is a key focus at Waterbeach, and visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible. The number 100 bus goes from Cambridge City Centre to Waterbeach. Parking is available at the sustainable travel hub near Brew & Basket, with the lake just a short walk away.
