Residents and visitors enjoyed a day of activity, connection and relaxation at Waterbeach’s recent Health and Wellbeing Day, with every session fully booked and participants making the most of the sunny weather.

Focused on the lake and wider natural environment, the event brought people together to experience some of the outdoor, leisure and wellbeing opportunities available at the development.

The programme featured a range of activities including lakeside yoga, open water swimming, paddleboarding, a community bike ride along Mere Way and a restorative sound bath in The Studio.

One of the highlights was the early morning yoga, where participants enjoyed a peaceful start to the day immersed in nature and accompanied by birdsong. The open water swimming sessions were also popular and provided an invigorating start to the day. Several first-time swimmers took part and overcame their nerves, gaining confidence in the water and leaving eager to book their next swim.

Caroline Ward, Community Development Lead for Waterbeach master developer Urban&Civic, said: “There are lots of ways to be active and meet neighbours at Waterbeach, and it was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the activities and connecting with nature and each other.

“This was the development’s first truly collaborative event, with Waterbeach Community Collective providing support by promoting the programme of activities and coordinating bookings. The success of the day highlighted the value of working together to create inclusive opportunities that enhance health, wellbeing and community connection.”

The Health and Wellbeing Day was funded through a Kickstart Grant from Cambridgeshire County Council to encourage new residents to try new things, experience the growing range of opportunities available around the lake, and build healthy activities into their everyday lives. The Kickstart Fund draws down money committed by Urban&Civic to community development and wellbeing, through the development’s S106 agreement, and is a core part of Waterbeach’s commitment to creating an active and healthy community where people feel empowered and connected.
