Although the official bridge launch will be in May when the landscaping has been completed, users can cross the new bridge to access a direct, largely off-road connection from Waterbeach to Cambridge Science Park, Cambridge Regional College and on to the city.

Fiona Reardon-Rose, Communications and Partnership Manager for the Waterbeach development, said: “The new bridge supports active, low-carbon travel for current and future residents as well as the wider community – whether commuting, exercising or exploring with the family during the Easter break.
“As well as making journeys healthier and more sustainable, it will significantly improve safety by removing the need for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders to cross the A10 at road level.
“There has been lots of anticipation and excitement about the bridge, so with installation and safety checks complete, we wanted to open it as soon as possible for residents to use, but we look forward to the official opening in coming weeks.”
Urban&Civic’s investment in the A10 bridge and upgraded Mere Way forms part of a package of sustainable and active travel improvements by the Waterbeach master developer. This also includes investment in local bus services and a sustainable travel hub with App Bikes and a community café and shop that sits at the gateway of the development.
