Brew by the Lake is hosting its official opening day on Sunday 11 May with a ‘Spring Sizzle Party’. From 11am–6pm there will be live music, BBQ, games and activities, and glitter tattoos.
The café overlooks the development’s 23-acre lake, offering a variety of hot and cold food and drinks with outdoor seating to enjoy a bit of nature spotting. Visitors can also partake in a walk or run round the Lake Loop, or indulge in the organised water sports activities.
Open seven days a week, Brew by the Lake will be operated by the same team who run the Taps pub in Waterbeach Village.
Alongside the café opening event, this weekend will also see the launch of the new development’s water sports programme for 2025. Following successful pilot sessions last year, Urban&Civic – masterdeveloper for the Waterbeach development – has continued its relationship with Cambridge Sports Lake Trust (CSLT), based at Milton Country Park. Wild swimming and paddleboarding will be available twice a week throughout the summer with sessions to suit all ages and abilities.
Swimming sessions run from 5pm–6.30pm on Wednesday evenings and from 11am–12.30pm on Sundays, with a 400m course that crosses the northern section of the lake in front of the two islands, which are being managed for nature.
Paddleboarding sessions will run on Sundays with a variety of options available, from taster sessions through to advanced sessions for qualified paddlers.

Fiona Reardon-Rose, Communities and Partnerships Manager for Urban&Civic, said: “We’re so excited to welcome our new café providers to the site and to have the café reopen for the residents and Waterbeach visitors to enjoy. The opening weekend will be a great chance to meet the team and sample a slice of life in the new development: a taste of Life at the ‘Beach.
“After successful pilot sessions last year, we are pleased to welcome back the Cambridge Sports Lake Trust team to Waterbeach to offer a range of wellbeing activities on our beautiful lake. It’s a great way to see this amazing development from a whole new angle and a perfect appetiser for hot chocolate at the café!”
Housebuilders Stonebond and Cala will also be open, with show homes available to view. No need to book an appointment, drop into their sales offices to find out more about how you can make Waterbeach your home.
Visitors are encouraged to walk or cycle to Waterbeach, but parking is available at the sustainable travel hub (W3W location: ///afternoon.strays.alongside), with the lake just a short walk away.
